SURVIVOR: SCOTLAND! Barnacle Boys, Hancock, Power Rangers ONLY

We have finished reading Macbeth! Would it surprise you to know that all Elizabethans loved the gory battles and the REAL sheep's blood used on the stage? In fact, there is some evidence that even Queen Elizabeth herself enjoyed a good hanging in the public square or bloody battle on stage as much as anyone--a trait which endeared her to the English people. My question is this: would Shakespeare think our love of slasher movies and explicit war films was tame? What customs of ours would seem strange to the Elizabethans? Think about our movies, books, TV, and music, and Shakespeare's reaction to them. Would he love it or hate it? Would Jersey Shore or Die Hard, for example, shock him or delight him? How would you script Macbeth as a Survivor: Scotland? I want to hear your ideas on how Shakespeare would operate in a digital world. The more specific your plans, the better. Your post is due January 8, 2010. Watch your mechanics!

I think a movie like Die Hard would please him because of the action and blood. But something like Jersey Shore would probably not please him. The digital world would probably amaze him but some of the movies/T.V. shows in existence right now, he would not be too fond of.

I think Shakespeare would like our advancements in film and the ability to create movie magic on screen. Since his time everything was physically in front of you I think he would be delighted to see our special effects and be able to see things that cannot really happen in life take place in the movies. Shakespeare would also like the idea of the movie theater because it is like a modern day “dome” where his plays used to take place. Our war movies would seem tame to Shakespeare because fake slaughters with fake blood actually took place on stage in the Elizabethan era, and that was part of the great energy in the play. Shakespeare would most likely frown upon shows like Jersey shore, reality TV shows, and spoof movies because of they are frivolous and defeat the purpose of screen plays. But Shakespeare was the king of human emotion, so maybe after getting used to the oxymoron being “reality TV” he would get a laugh out of it.

Many Elizabethans loved the gory battles and violent acts that took place on the stage of plays. For this reason, I think Shakespeare would think our love for slasher movies and explicit film is somewhat tame. Knowing that during Shakespeare’s time there was entertainment that included actual bloodshed and violence, I don’t think anyone from that time would be too surprised to see the kind of movies being made today. However, there are other customs of ours that I think the Elizabethans would find strange. For example, reality TV shows and rap are things talk about think that Shakespeare would not be able to relate to. His reaction to them would probably be somewhat confused because they deal with a completely different period of time. Being used the things Shakespeare was accustomed too, I really don’t think he would like the new shows, music, and entertainment we are subjected to every day. The theme and message given out by the music and movie culture today would come off as shocking to him. However, once Shakespeare became used to a more digital world, I think he could still be successful in writing plays. If Macbeth were scripted as a survivor, I think it could give the play a whole new plot. It could also open up a whole new storyline. If Shakespeare lived in a digital world, I think Macbeth would have lived because it is rare in movies today to see the main character die. Although his work may have been different, I still think Shakespeare could have succeeded in this new age and managed to be just a successful writing scripts as he was back in the Elizabethan era.

I think that Shakespeare would agree that our slasher movies, and explicit war movies are tame. I've come to this conclusion, because if he writes about blood and gore, he has to have a good sense for gorry movies. To Shakespeare he'll probably look at these horror movies as his hobby, since he is interested in all the bloody scenes as well as the Elizabethans. Some of our customs for example, reality shows and music like rap, I don't think he would understand and or enjoy. He might look at reality shows as stupid, because of all the drama going on, and he wouldn't like the music because its so drastically different then what he is use to. All rap is is cussing and rhyming, but it doesn't bother me because I grew up with it and listen to it. Shakespeare more than likely wouldn't like Jersey Shore, because of all the reality and non-sense going on, I find it funny and interesting. Now, Die Hard would be a great movie that Shakespeare would like because there is aot of action and violence going on, which would be right up his ally. If Macbeth would have lived, I think there might have been a sequel for Banquo's family to get revenge on him for what he has done. Also, it's really not normal to see the main character die in movies, or plays even if it's a tragic hero drama. It kills the play when you hear that the main character has died, because after that the story is over, and the fun stops! If Shakespeare had lived in a digital world he would have been making terrific movies back to back with blood and guts involved, he would have probably re-vamped our lifes with his creativity and movie making abilities.

I think Shakespeare would like our love of slasher movie and explicit way films and would think it is tame. I feel this way because we have advanced in our technology and creativity since his time. Our movies are sometime portrayed even more real than they are in actual reality. In Shakespeare’s time they would use pig or sheep blood to portray for human blood for a bloody scene. Now we use corn syrup and other materials to create the blood without having to kill an animal. Also the technology on the computer that we have today and the animation creates a realistic picture that everyone can admire and enjoy. Our movies today about war portray what is going on in the world and help us gain understanding of what faces us in war. Just like Shakespearean plays depicted real life so do ours. I think he would be amazed in the effects and technology that gets put into our modern day movies. Shows like Jersey Shore and MTV shows I think he would look down upon because of they don’t portray worldly importance and are not real pieces of art and creativity. I think what would seem strange to the Elizabethans is our modern love for more happy and comedic movies and plots rather than suffering and heartache. The Elizabethans enjoyed more gore and action over happy endings. Our movie world produces more happy endings.

I think Shakespeare would consider our slasher movies and war films tame because he himself wrote plays that were filled with blood and gore, so i think he would already be accustomed to it.I think he would appreciate all the new advances in theater and technology because all the special affects would help to make his plays even more specatular. The digital world would probably fascinate him.The theaters and box offices could make his plays even more famous because they could be shown over and over again all over the world but they would only need to be performed once. Some of our modern day entertainment such as reality shows, spoof movies, books, music, and TV drams such as 90210 and Gossip Girl would seem foreign to the Elizabethians because they would not understand the type of drama taking place since it varies tremendously from the blood and gore they are used to.I dont think they would appreciate the music of our time mainlt rhe rap music since it is filled with vulgarity, foul language, and disrespect towards women. The digital world would might also come as a shock to him since it is nothing like he is used to. However, I also think that once Shakespeare has become accustomed to our culture he might feel differently. I also think Shakespeare would have trouble adjusting to a show like Jersey Shore. He would probably think it was a bunch of nonsense. He would probably be shocked that they actually broadcast such a pointless show that our culture today finds entertaining. I think he would relate better with a movie such as Die Hard because it is filled with violence and other forms of action. If Macbeth would have survived I think he would have done more harm to innocent people. He would have eventually killed off everyone until someone thought to seek revenge. Macbeth dieing seems abnormal compared to the heros in modern day cinema because unlike Macbeth the hero usually sticks it out until the end. I think Shakespeare would find the digital world in some ways, an appealing place to be and I think if he lived in our times he would never want to leave.

Is Shakespeare were to see the gory movies we have today like Saw, I think he would find it very interesting. In the Elizabethan time period there was little you could do on stage in front of the audience. He would enjoy all the things we can do now with special effects to make things more detailed and appealing. Even though they used real blood and had live fights, we have more gory story lines than just sword fighting. In our time we enjoy watching people burn alive from heat lamps, be slowly cut in half, and be ripped apart limb from limb. If Shakespeare was given the tools to create movies like we have today I think he would be like the freaks that enjoy writing story lines for movies like Saw. His only change would be that he would use real blood. If Macbeth was cast in the movie Saw, he would be the only person to live because he would trick everyone to his advantage. He could escape and everyone else would be left to die because he only cares about himself.

I think Shakespeare would appriecate some of the movies, books, and tv shows that we have currently. Such has Die Hard. Shakespeare would find that a great movie with all the action involved. Shakespeare, as well as the Elizabethans would find our current movies and action-thriller entertainment different. Instead of it being right there in front of you, it would be a screen. Compared to on stage with real blood from animals it would be fake and in a movie or of some sort. It is a tamer way since back then. I do not think that Shakespeare would appriecate reality t.v and shows like the Jersey Shore. I believe that he would find it offending to our lives and even insulting that there would be a tv show like that. If Shakespeare was in a digital world his writing and stories would still be amoung the best. He would bring so much more to our current day movies and entertainment.

I think Shakespeare would think our love of slasher movies and explicit war films was tame. Our horror movies today are gory and the Elizabethans loved gory battles used on stage during plays. Customs of ours that would seem strange to the Elizabethans would be are use of animated affects during movies. In their time plays were acted out in front of them so they thought the actors were really dying. Our movies today have affects to make it look like there's blood but there really isn't. I think Shakespeare would be surprised with the movies, books, TV, and music of today. I think certain movies and books he would love because writing has come a far way. I think he would be disappointed with reality TV and music that had no meaning. I think Jersey Shore would shock him because the show is all drama and doesn't have a definite meaning. Die Hard would delight Shakespear because it shows the tragedy and struggle of life.
I would script Macbeth as an overconfident contestant. His large ego would try to eliminate every other player that way he could win the entire game. In the digital world I think Shakespeare would be able to create very interesting movies, books, or songs.

  10. I think Shakespear would like how movie look now. Realistic and creative. Back then, battles weren't watched. No. They were right in front of you. I think he would like all the war movies that are out because of all the blood that takes place, and that is just like the plays he performed for his audiance. But with reality TV he probably wont get a kick out of it because it is not acting. It's just thinking real fast and has nothing to do with acting. Life is just one big play and Shakespear would understand that.

  11. I think Shakespeare would have not liked the music and shows. The shows are about drama and the music ranges from love to breakup to rap. Shakespeare would have liked the movies alot. Shakespeare would have loved the special effects of the present time. Shakespeare would have loved the horror movies with the realistic blood. The present day technology would have added on to the greatness of his plays. The special effects and action would have allowed more of his play to be more reconized with common day people. The theatres would have allowed more people to see his plays.

  12. I think Shakespeare would agree with movies that have a lot of action and slashing such as Predator or the Halloween movies because it has to do with murders and action and that is what most of Shakespeare’s plays were like. I think Shakespeare would not like reality tv shows like Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, or Real World because it deals with things that are more modern then the Elizabethan times and things are not the same as they were back then. He would probably be very disturbed. I'm not sure whether or not he would like the music. I think the rap, hip-hop, or techno music would just be very different to him because all of the new technology and sounds we have now. In a digital world i think Shakespeare would adapt very well because he would make it very gory and detailed. He is a very creative and artistic person so a lot of people would like his movies.

I think that Shakespeare would like some of our movies nowadays. Movies like Die Hard would definately intrigue him more than a movie like Saw would. I think this because action movies pretty much have everything you want in a movie and the car chases would definately be something he would like. The movie theater would be weird at first for him because it is not preformed live, but i think he would enjoy it after awhile. Our TV shows could go either way with him he would probably like shows like Lost or 24, but wouldnt like our reality shows like Jersey Shore. Back then they didn't have all of the different genres of music that we have, so I think that there would be some types that he would like and others that he wouldn't. He would probably like our literature the most because of the way we write and the unique plot lines that many stories have. I think that if he was alive now he would be making just as much change to our culture as he did then.

In my opinion I believe that Shakespeare and the Elizabethans would be in love with our day and age. Of course there would be some culture shocks, but that would be expected. Shows like Jersey Shore probably would appeal to Shakespeare, because being able to portray real life to the entire world through a television would be fascinating. I think Elizabethans would be head over heals for aspects of our society, especially hard core movies such as Die Hard. In today’s literature there are thousands and thousands of different kinds of poems and different kind of plays. The Elizabethans would never get bored with the amount of literature we have. I also believe that Shakespeare wouldn’t be able to operate in our day and age. Shakespeare was so advanced for his day and age for the way he thought but now days he wouldn’t have anything new to come up with. Shakespeare would be so flustered by how many different types of poems and plays that go on now that he wouldn’t like our day and age.

  15. I believe that Shakespeare would see today's slasher films as tame. He usually has all of his characters get murdered by others. I believe that Shakespeare would also enjoy watching some of these films. He would also like how these murders in today's slasher films sometime involve much gore and betrayal. I think the root of him liking these films would also be because they involve some of the same elements he used in his poems.

  16. I believe William Shakespeare would be surprised and delighted by some of our movies and shows today. Our thrillers are full of suspense and surprises that Shakespeare would love. We have great special effects that he could have never even thought of; high tech in his plays was a sheet of metal that sounded like thunder. Today we can immerse ourselves into the action and Shakespeare would truly enjoy that and use that to in advantage. He would love Die Hard, The Borne Trilogy, and definitely the James Bonds movies. However, for shows like Jersey Shore, Real World, and all the shows like that, he would be disgusted. He would hate those shows because they have no plot, and is mostly mindless dribble, if it was a play he would walk straight out. The only part of those shows he would like would be the backstabbing and evilness of most of the people on the show. I think he would like the reality show Survivor because he would love to see the people fight in real life and also the betraying and backstabbing of the people. If Macbeth were to be shot in a Survivor like way, it would have a lot of backstabbing and maybe even a mystical like person or something along those lines that would give people vague statements about others. In addition, the major tests in the show would be one on one fights with sticks or something and the final test would be a battle between the last remaining two.

When I think of Shakespeare I think of sophistication. If he were to step into our world today he would definitely experience some culture shock. I do believe Shakespeare would be impressed by modern day slasher movies because back in his time all of the effects were fake. I think Shakespeare would really like the movie Die Hard because it is packed with action and violence, which he really seems to enjoy, and the special effects would just blow him away. Shakespeare would absolutely detest reality T.V. shows like Jersey Shore because it is a cheap form of entertainment, which serves no purpose. I think Shakespeare would be surprised to hear most our music today and he would probably be insulted. He might wonder what happened to the beautiful language he used to know. I would find it interesting to see how Shakespeare would interact with our digital world today. I have no doubt that he would make an excellent screen play writer or even a director.
I would not have liked to see Macbeth survive through the end of the play. When I think of the character Macbeth I think of his over confidence and how it led to his downfall and I feel like that downfall was essential. But if Macbeth did survive and there were a sequel I would like to see Scotland avenge their previous King’s death and punish Macbeth for what he had done.

Just like most of the other Elizabethans of his time, Shakespeare loved plays with gory battles and violent acts. Knowing this I believe that Shakespeare would love the horror movies of our times and some of the better action movies. He would enjoy movies like the Saw Series and the Friday the 13th movies. These would be right up his ally, but I think there are some other films that would frighten him. Paranormal Activity and The Ring would both scare him due to their supernatural type of theme even Shakespeare hadn’t thought of. Also movies like the Lord of the Rings and Platoon would excite Shakespeare like he had never been before. With their extensive battles and great story lines he would likely want to throw roses at the screen after the movie was over. On another note I do not think he would enjoy today’s music too much with possibly the exception of classical rock. He wouldn’t like today’s television shows either with the exception of some of the strange gothic shows I am not familiar with. Overall I believe that Shakespeare would happy with how far our society has come in entertainment.

  19. I think that Shakespeare would like all the new things that we have come up with today. All the new technology and literature is very different from what the Elizabethans were used to. In his plays there is blood, death, love, gore, and gross things; that is just how the movies are today. If Shakespeare lived in this time, i think that he wouldn't have the movies any other way. He likes the gross things, and he also likes ghosts and apparitions that come back to life of return to earth; most of our movies have that.He also likes tragedies, or when the main character dies. Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet are just two of his best plays, and they had the main characters die and they are tragedies. Some of the movie makers take their ides from Shakespeare so i think that he would really like that! And many plays have taken their direction from Shakespeare's plays too! Shakespeare loved drama, that was one of his specialties. If he watched some of the shows now, he would find that there is a lot of drama in the world. And on top of all that, he would love to make one of his plays a movie so that everyone could see it, and if he lived in this time he could do that. So, yes i think that Shakespeare would do very well in this digital time, it has all the things that im sure he wanted when he was writing his plays.

  20. I think that Shakespeare would think that our bloody movies would be a lot more interesting than reading about bloody scenes in books. I think that Shakespeare would be a little confused about the type of blood we use for the movies now and how its not sheeps blood. I also think that Die Hard would be a movie that Shakespeare would like to watch because it is filled with action and killing. I don't think Shakespeare would like Jersey Shore because it is all drama and probably not enough action for him. I think Shakespeare's favorite movie would probably be an extremely violent one that has a lot of blood. When it comes to music i think Shakespeare would like Tupac because a lot of Tupacs music is about how he wants to get back at people that tried to kill him or that have done something wrong to him.

Imagine you walk into a movie theater to see Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Shakespeare was sitting next to you. If you were to strike up a conversation with him, I think he would complain that the horror film seems like a mockery to him. In Shakespeare's time they used real sheep's blood to put on plays and performances. In the present time, the majority of shows are in movie theaters watching actors and special effects on a screen which doesn't seem as real. On the other hand, he would think our version of plays are kinda lame because we use fake blood and they somehow don't feel as real as the Elizabethans did their plays. I think if Shakespeare watched our "reality tv shows" he would think it was a total joke and waste of time. I think he would be disgraced to watch them because they use slang language and don't express love in an over dramatic style that he used. The Elizabethans would think it is strange how these reality shows invade personal privacy by having cameras in the people's bedrooms and showing all of there problems on national television. Shakespeare would both love the advances of the modern world but he would also be bothered by the lack of expression in reality shows and realism in action films.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think Shakespeare would enjoy most of our action movies and war films because he would be so fascinated by our technology and HD TVs. I think he would be amazed if we told him his plays were the first reference of tragedies and many of them made into movies. I think the customs that would seem strange to him are being able to watch movies instead of going to the hall and seeing a play. I think he would surprised to see how our special effects in movies work because with his plays the had to make things look as real as they could with what they had. Shakespeare would find our books similar to the ones in his time just with different plots. He would love to watch TV because it’s like being able to watch a bunch of different plays without out leaving your house. He might not like it though because it loses the feeling of actually being at a play. Shakespeare may like some of our music like rock but he would hate rap because it would be so different and the language they use would be very inappropriate for there time. He would hate the jersey shore because it’s the dumbest show on TV there’s no point to it and he would find it very annoying. I think that Shakespeare’s work would be great in our time because he was so far ahead of his time. He wrote really good stories and plays so if he could do that with all the technology we have, he would make many great movies and TV shows that everyone would enjoy watching

In my opinion I think Shakespeare while being a fan of blood and guts, is also quite a romantic at heart, so I don't think he would understand why so many people like these kind of movies, but he wouldn't be one to go out and pay the rates we do for something like this. As for our customs he would find strange, I have to say that the majority of the things we do today, that when he was alive wasn't even being thought of as impossible like texting and no more human to human contact. It would be up surd to say the least. Shakespeare would still enjoy the books that are out there today because of the fact that there are so many of them, you could find just about anything he wanted no matter what. I don't watch Jersey Shore so I cannot answer that question but I think that a Survivor: Scotland, would be different and exciting. it's a twist that a great writer like Shakespeare would love. As for how Shakespeare would fare in the digital world, I believe he would survive quite easily being s man of creativity and knowledge.

  24. I think that Shakespeare and the Elizabethans would indulge in and enjoy our modern day slasher films and explicit war films. I think that the same hematic actions used on stage that the Elizabethans were so fascinated with are very similar to what we use today. I think that Elizabethans would find it strange that women are acting in movies and plays. In Shakespearean time, women didn't normally hold a role in plays. Movies today however, may not appeal to the interests of Elizabethans as it does to us. Not only may Elizabethans be confused about the fact that women are allowed to act, they may also not understand the themes behind some movies and TV shows in today's media. For example, the show Jersey Show would probably seem very frivolous to Elizabethans and overall moronic. However, society today can actually find Jersey Shore and similar types of shows or movies to be very entertaining. Individuals’ interests today have definitely shifted from individuals’ interests in Elizabethan times.

  25. I think Shakespeare would be 50/50 about our culture and the customs of our time. I think he would definately be in favor of the gorry and blood-filled movies. He probably would find them somewhat tame too, because he was used to seeing and writing stories about actual bloodshed, without all the special effects. He would probably also go and see alot of drama type movies, even the less violent ones, because he seemed to write with alot of drama, and climax. He probably would think, though, that there's too much reality/ garbage TV and movies being made today. I can't really see Shakespeare fist pumping in his living room watching my boy Paulie D and the rest of the Jersey Shore cast. At the same time I can definately see him watching the more violent stuff.

  26. I personally think that Shakespeare would enjoy the slasher and war like movies. Most of his plays are filled with action, gore, and fighting, so it’s not much different than the movies in our time. Some of our customs like reality TV shows I do not think Shakespeare would enjoy because they have no point to them and they are stupid and drama-filled. Shakespeare seems like he would want to watch something with an important theme, not something that is pointless with no theme. Shakespeare would not like Jersey shore because it is a show that is only on TV because the people on it have no lives and just want to be famous. I think the show would shock him, and I think he would be disappointed in what America has become. I think that if Macbeth survived, that a lot of people would be out to get revenge on him. If he survived battling Macduff, someone else would for sure kill him because of everything he did. Scotland would be under full control by Macbeth, he would become a tyrant. If Shakespeare lived in this digital world, I think he would be an amazing writer, and the movies they would make of his stories would be out of this world.

However, i think that something like Jersey Shore would shock him. He would probably find what we think is funny and entertaining a waste of time and stupid. The show has a lot of drama and Shakespeare would think that we are stupid. I think Shakespear would have liked Die Hard because it its more action in it. I think that if Macbeth survived then he would still be killing people. I dont think that he would change back to being good. I think that Shakespeare would be amazed at all the advancements we have today in movie making, and the all the new technology. In the play Macbeth, I really think if they used what we had today,Macbeth could have been a lot different, including the whole plot of the story and especially the murder scenes I believe would be a little more drastic. I feel like he wouldn't be pleased with Jersey Shore, or any other type of reality show like that. It doesn't really seem like anything he would be into, but then again, he never really got to experice or witness anything like it.

I think Shakespeare would like the fact that we like slasher movies and gory films. I feel like the only difference would be that Elizabethans saw everything in action. When we watch it, it is on film, which isn't the same as in real life because it would be fake. I doubt Shakespeare would agree with some of the shows we watch today, like Jersey Shore, because it is the complete opposite of what he would be used to. His time period is extremely different from ours. Meaning he would sure not enjoy the kind of music we listen to, especially because of the lyrics. In the Elizabethan time, they would write about how beautiful girls were and their love for them in good manner, unlike now. If Macbeth were to survive, I definitely think it would make for an even better story. If he survived they could have a sequel, and it would be very interesting. If Shakespeare were to operate in the digital world, I think he would make wonderful, interesting movies, ones that we have never seen like them. His movies would without a doubt be amazing and breathtaking.

I think that if they liked blood and trauma then they would like Die Hard. That movie has a lot of violence and action. I think they would be suprised at the advances me have made in movie making to make things more involved with blood. Shakespeare would probably like to get creative with new advances and he could probably make sequels to some of his plays. He may not be interested in reality television because it is basically just for entertainment. There is no real meaning to these shows except to get a laugh out of them. I think Shakespeare could change our digital world for the better.

  31. I think Shakespeare would be both pleased and disappointed by the movies and TV shows in our times now. Since he liked gore and blood, I think he would most likely be fasinated by the new special effects that movies have in them now. But on the other hand I think he would be a little disappointed because he was used to everything being so real and in front of him, like using pigs blood for the plays in his times. I think he would not agree with the relaity shows at all, they're all drama just to get people entertained. People now are used to that but he wouldn't be because thats not what was going on in his time, it was msotly about blood and gore to him.

  32. I believe that Shakespeare would be absolutely fascinated by the world of movies and t.v. If he were to be exposed to this world and learned how to fully utilize it, there would be no end to what kind of special effects he could create for all of his plays. Which I'm sure he would make a movie of all of them from the true perspective from which they come from which is his. If society truly did enjoy all of the blood and gore then they would surely not consider any of the modern day slasher and violent movies we now have to be nothing out of the ordinary even though they would be a lot more advanced as far as effects and props are used. As far as Die Hard and Jersey Shore go, I think that they would love Die Hard because, of all of the action, weapons, and killing involved. As for Jersey Shore I'm not quite convinced that they would totally love it but, I'm sure they would find it pretty entertaining to view a new perspective for a change instead of the old one they are very familiar with.

  33. I think for a show like Jersey Shore Shakespeare would be dumbfounded to find out that it is very popular. Most Shakespeare poems and novels have outstanding word play and beautifully written scripts. In a show like Jersey Shore let’s just say the words they use aren’t exactly very thought out. There is relatively no plot to the show and still people love to watch it, far from what the Elizabethans enjoyed to watch. Some customs from our world that may seem strange to Shakespeare are that in our movies, shows, and music there is very explicit content as far as the words we use. For Shakespeare he hardly ever used foul word play and would probably seem pretty crazy to him that almost every other word that comes out of people’s mouths in music, such as rap, movies, such as Superbad and TV shows, such as Jersey Shore. I don’t think Shakespeare would like this at all, I feel as though for someone who tried to use the best possible words and most thought out word play would hate that our society really doesn’t care about that too much anymore. Movies such as Die Hard, I think, he would be delighted in. This movie has a ton of action and a fair amount of blood, which the Elizabethans loved. Shakespeare I think if he grew up in our time would thrive in our digital world with movies. He was great at getting his audience to see the emotion of his plays, and that was back in the Elizabethan era, think of what he could do now with the proper equipment. He would be a great screen writer and director, I think. Macbeth as a Survivor: Scotland would probably kill all the other cast mates behind set so that he could win the million dollars.

  34. I think that Shakespeare would find today's progression of film-making fascinating. It would be a whole new way to experience plays. Shakespeare would think that our slasher movies are tame, because he is so used to having the real thing being acted out in front of him. Although he wouldn't be too surprised, because the in the Elizebethan times were used with real violent, action-packed bloodshed, he would probably find our fake, gory bloodshed and special effects interesting. Shakespeare would look down on today's music, like rap, and reality tv shows, such as Jersey Shore or the Real World. Advancements like these would not appeal to him as much because there isn't much bloodshed or action. He would also find these shows somewhat sophmoric or foolish. But once he became more used to modern-day technology, he would create plays more brilliant than any other film maker, and maybe even find reality tv shows humorous.

  35. I think Shakespeare would be amazed by our films. Plays took a lot of hardwork and planning, but so do movies. Movies take longer because of having to shoot it, edit it, etc. I think he'd be amazed by the special effects and realism thats brought to life through them. If he enjoyed gore, and blood, he'd have plenty of movies to choose from. Some are much more vulgar than others. I don't think he'd think of the films as tame. They could be seen as "tame" though, because he's actually seen people get killed before his eyes. I don't think any movie would compare to the real thing. He probably wouldn't be pleased with Jersey Shore because its planned, and sloppy. There's no real purpose for the violence, and no gore. Therefore, I don't think he'd like it. I can see Shakespeare enjoying the digital world and bringing his love for gore and plays to film if he was still alive today.

  36. I believe that Shakespeare will love the plots of deceit and torture but I think he will feel as if it’s not formal enough for him. He will think that specific words used will be all wrong and not graceful like his graceful flowing plays. Our customs of gore and violence will be exactly of how they are. Most people enjoy gore and violence because it leaves them on there seats but what they probable will think is strange is the way we deal with punishment these days. In the old day, you would be hung but now you will have several trials and than put in jail. The punishment was much more severe back than. Shakespeare will like the drama is all the movies, books, TV and even music. The intensity of our culture today is breath taking by what makes us “Tick”. The drama in everything is so pure and without a doubt brutal. I think that Jersey Shore and Die Hard will entertain him (even though I have not seen either one). Macbeth would definitely be all for the survival of the fittest. I think that Macbeth would start out as a coward and never win a challenge but than he will slower start taking the credit. After he starts taking some of the credit, he will start to eliminate his top competitors so that he will come out on top. Lady Macbeth will be his partner that gives him all the ideas to push people down when they are low, to take advantage. She was the brain and Macbeth will be the Braun.

(I hope I answered your last question as you wanted it to be, I was confused)

  37. If the Elizabethans loved public hangings and swordfights, i think they'd really enjoy the slasher movies we have now. Directors are getting more and more creative with the way people die in horror films; ecspecially the Saw series. The graphics and special effects would simply amaze Shakespeare. Though i think he would be a little disappointed in the plot lines. Unlike Macbeth, most slasher movies are just about crazy people who go after other people (usually teens)for really no reason. Macbeth's plot line took alot of thinking and planning. Shakespeare used symbols and the supernatural. For example: when the witches told Macbeth that "no one of woman born will harm him," Macbeth certainly was harmed because of Macduff's way of birth. Using this to compare with the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the teens in the movie were just killed off one by one with no real point or reason to why they were chosen. As for "reality shows," I think if Shakespeare sat down and watched a few episodes of Jersey Shore, he'd most likely go and hang himself because that's how much of a disgrace it is. There's no point to the violence and no point to more than half of the arguements. Not to mention they don't even show Snooky get punched. What a downer.

I think that shakespear would hate television that is on today. I do because we have a lot of dumb reality shows that have no plot and are very boring. all of his work was very thought out and had a good plot and interesting twists, our movie/show makers should take some notes from him. shakespear would be amazed with our music today because of all the effects we can use and technology is so far ahead of ours today. if shakespear could become alive some how i beliave he would be shocked and dissapointed about our digital world. our musiz would amaze him our special affects would give him nitemares and our plots would dissapoint him

I think that Shakespeare and the Elizabethans would think that our fascination with slasher movies and violence was tame because as was mentioned before they loved a public spectacle. If they liked watching gruesome battles in public then they should have no problem becoming fans of some off the "blood and guts" type of movies we have today. They would be drawn towards more of a Saw movie rather than an action packed movie like Die Hard. The special effects in movies like Die Hard and Transformers probably would be a favorite of Shakespeare because they were very "hands on" in the plays. They would probably want to carry on that same showmanship with movies. Also i doubt they would find Jersey Shore, or any reality show, very interesting and may even find it odd. They probably wouldn't understand the reality show's transformation from seeing "real people's" lives to throwing five people in a house an seeing what happens. Some aspects of our "digital world" would amaze and excite the Elizabethan people, and others wouldn't excite them that much. But I do think they would adjust well to glitz and glamour of the current movie/television business.

  40. I think Shakespeare would enjoy all the horror and slasher movies that were out today. All the blood, violence, and gore would intrigue him. Shakespeare wrote tragedies with such violence but did not have all the tools to express all that he wanted to. I think with today’s technology and advancements in movies and TV, Shakespeare would be going to see all the horror movies. If he were a director today, his movies would be absolutely breathtaking. He would set box office records. Putting together his stories and scripts with all the technology would make an unforgettable movie. I believe that he would not like any of the reality TV shows though. Shows like Jersey Shore would disappoint him. Basically now days anyone can a reality TV show for doing absolutely nothing. I don’t think that he would have liked it because it is only about people who just want to become famous. There is no special meaning or plot behind any reality show. He would be disappointed in what America has come to be about and what is now promotes. The Elizabethans stood for a lot more than “punching girls over shots” and “fist pumping.” Shakespeare would definitely be into all the technology and the horror movies and that kind of stuff. But, reality tv would disappoint him and I think he would think it’s a waste of time and money.

  41. I think Shakespeare would have mixed feelings about our modern ideas of gore. Our ideas of "reality" would probably seem incredibly fake to him. Shakespeare however would probably be amazed at the special effects technology affords. (how you can create a bloody scene without having to kill a pig). As a fan of 'Survivor' I think a Elizabethan version would be extremely interesting. Macbeth would probably win all the psychical individual immunity challenges against someone as young as Young Siward or Malcolm but Macduff could definitely give Macbeth a run for his money in the mental competitions.

  42. I think Shakespeare would probably enjoy a movie like Die Hard because it is violent and gory and he could relate. He probably wouldn't like most reality tv because most shows aren't about anything important. But honestly he'd prob like Jersey Shore I mean who doesn't like The Situation? Even though the Jersey Shore isn't a show about anything of importance it is still entertaing and I think he would enjoy it. He'd most likely be digging the situation if you know what I'm saying.

  43. I think that Shakespeare would consider our love of slasher movies and explicit war films tame compared plays and stories of the Elizabethan era. Even though movies like the Saw series are extremely gory and violent most of the blood and gore is computer generated or fake. In Shakespeare’s time real blood was used and sometimes actors in the plays got hurt from acting just a little too much. Elizabethans would think many of our customs today are strange especially reality TV shows like The Hills and Jersey Shore. If one of them watched either of these shows they would probably be wondering where the action was and what is the point of watching a show about someone else’s life. Elizabethans would probably like the movie Die Hard because there is a lot of action, adventure and violence just like some of the plays of their time. In a digital world Shakespeare would have a lot of fun with special effects once he got use to them. He would probably intensify the blood and gore in his plays to make them seem more realistic. Also he would probably be able to modernize his plays and make them easier for us to understand them. For example the remake of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo Dicaprio even with all of Shakespeare’s original words is easier to understand than if you are just reading the words. Overall I think Shakespeare would have adapted to our technology and understanding of life very well and would have probably made many creative movies that we would really enjoy.

  44. I think that Shakespeare would love our slasher and explicit movies. With today’s technology, we can make all of the bloody and gory scenes in movies look very real. Since Shakespeare loved writing these particular scenes for the stage he would definitely love seeing them in our movie theatres. Most of our movies also portray situations that are parallel to what is happening in the real world. However, he would probably think that all of reality shows are frivolous. He would think that they are too fake and that they don’t depict real life realistically. I believe that most Elizabethans would find it a bit odd that we love romance; romantic comedies and pretty much anything else with a happy ending as much as we do considering that they really enjoyed more action packed pieces

I think that Shakespeare would be very impressed about how far the theater world has come. We have so many actors with all different talents, we have movie theaters, Broadway plays, and all of the special effects we now add to movies, television shows, and even shows presented on a live stage, to make them even more amazing. I think Shakespeare would really enjoy a movie such as Die Hard because of all the violence and action. I think he would also enjoy movies such as The Titanic and Pearl Harbor. They are both love stories, but are tragedies also. Pearl Harbor is also filled with some action too. I think he would be very pleased with all of our action and love stories, but have a hard time adjusting to our reality television shows, such as Jersey Shore. Shows like Jersey Shore honestly have to point to them, except to entertain us. I think Shakespeare may find it outrageous and ridiculous that shows like that are actually shown. To us they entertain us, but to him it would absolutely bore him because they have no story line to them. I think he would find it very shocking to see how much our world, in a sense, has gotten out of hand. Some shows and movies, for example The Secret Life of the American Teenager, resemble how respect has just gone out the window. How little respect there truly is for anyone any more. I also think Shakespeare would be surprised, yet interested, in how much technology has increased since his time. All of the special effects and neat things that are added to movies to make them better he would enjoy. I think he would be very happy with the creativity people have come up with. Overall, some things Shakespeare would love and other things would just not catch his interest.

  46. Seeing as the Elizabethans loved such gruesome entertainment as bear-baiting, actual sheep's blood on the sets of their plays, and public capital punishments such as hangings, burning at the stakes, and more extreme things of that nature, I'm positive that most of the movies of this century would intrigue Shakespeare and entertain him immensely. Our horror movies such as "Saw" and "Silence of the Lambs" would satisfy his need for blood and gore and I think the movies in this genre would be in his elements. As a whole though, I feel like he would see today's entertainment as quite pointless and probably even degrading to society. The comedy, romance, and sci-fi movies presented to us today and even our tv shows are influenced by lust and sex. Back in Shakespeare's day I'm sure they were entertained by this just as much but they would feel like the women of today were too forward and that men had lost their poetic ways to a woman's heart. "Jersey Shore" is a prime example of this. 'The Situation' alone proves how unskilled some men have become in wooing a girl into giving them what they want. Overall there would most likely be some pretty good feelings of how our entertainment has evolved and then some not-so-good feelings but since Shakespeare could be seen as a man way ahead of his time, I'm sure he could except most of it and adapt to the changes of time.

I think Shakespeare would be appalled at some of movies and TV shows now-days. Shakespeare would really enjoy the, “slasher” movies because he is known for having quite gruesome novels and movies. Even though our kind of horror has changed since Shakespeare I still think he would find them quite interesting. However, I think that he would have mixed feelings about, Jersey Shore. Shakespeare wrote very over dramatic plays just like, MTV's Jersey Shore. I cant lie Jersey Shore is one of the best shows on television. Both Jersey Shore and Shakespeare have a solid line of followers. When you either read one of his novels, or watch an episode you cant stop thinking about it.

  48. I believe that Shakespeare would be disgusted with the entertainment of our generation.I will start off by using jersey shore as an example. Even though I enjoy this show and find it funny I think Shakespeare would be embarrassed that entertainment. He would be discraced that people watch that show. I think he would enjoy some movies for an example The Departed. I think that he would dislike the Saw series because it is so gory it almost takes it to far. I think he would want to give everyone lessons on how to make a movie or a show and every director would look at him like he was crazy. His type of entertainment would never be able to stay around for to long. Many of his stories are still around but the youth of this generation likes todays shows like Family Guy and South Park which are completely different. I believe Shakespeare would hate this entertainment

  49. I think Shakespeare would like our movies and shows today. He would like the blood and killing in our entertainment because its just like theirs only ours is more realistic and gorey. The newest Rambo movie is one of the goriest movies ive seen and i think the technology in which they were killed with would interest him because he has never seen weapons like that that can do the damage they do. Also the ways people fall in love today may be different then in his day so i think that too would interest him. Like in their time a women might not have a choice to marry someone and today they do so he would maybe like or dislike this. And finally the way we watch our entertainment is different from the way he watched things so that may interest him. He watched plays and read books and we watch tv and movies and listen to radios so that would be a new experience for him that would please him. Thats what I think about how I think Shakespeare would react to our ways of entertainment today.

  50. I think that Shakespeare would be very impressed with some of the television shows and movies that we have today. Today their is a wide range of films tv shows and music that is a avaliable. I think that Shakespeare would really enjoy the works of Will Ferrel mostly because of the comedy that Shakespeare put into his plays. I think that he would love actions movies with a lot of brutality involved. Just reading about how desciptive the killing of MacDonald was in "Macbeth" shows how much Shakespeare appreciated a good action movie. An action movie I think he would like in perticular is "300", I don't know what it is about it that makes it a perfect fit for Shakespeare, but it probabaly would be the intense fighting scenes and gore. As for drama, I don't think that Shakespeare would be too into a show like the "Real World" or any reality show like that. But I think that you might find Shakespeare watching an hour of the Jersey Shore or the Hills in once a week, just to get his drama fix like many of us do. As for music I think that he would be a huge fan of Taylor Swift because of how a lot of her songs are about love, just like some of his sonnets. I don't think that he would be too into rap but I think that he would respect the lyrical genius of Eminem and Lil Wayne. If Shakespeare was still around today I think he would have to get used to a lot, but for the most part I think he would enjoy our forms of entertainment.

  51. In my opinion the ideas and points to be in are the same as shakespearian times. The way some may express themselvs, like in Jersey shore is a little bit outlandish and unrealistic but it IS drama. As we all know there is drama in Shakspears' plays as well as our reality shows. It's just a difference in modern times and how we express ourselves. The gore however is always something a audience has enjoyed. From the plays to the movies, it keeps peopl on their toes.

  52. I believe Shakespeare would enjoy our enhancement digitally and would use it to his advantage. Shakespeare is a composer and director, one of the most famous of all time. Being able to film his plays, drastically enhance the picture, and sequence any gory, special effect scene he wanted to would just be his dream come true. I think Shakespeare would like the idea of being able to show his work to people everywhere. Shakespeare tried to be as artistic as possible; having so many new artistic additions would greatly increase his work. Shakespeare. Could have shown characters really die with realistic blood from the exact angle. Shakespeare would probably love the die hard movies; they’re bloody, tragic, and intense, with a somewhat complicated plot. He may even like the idea of actually being able to see people’s lives take place (reality TV). The shows would be real tragedies with complicated love triangles and experiences.

  53. I think Macbeth would be very happy with the advancements in our technology to project the gory effects of horror films. Whenever I watch horror movies from many years ago, I automatically can tell how old it is because of how fake it looks. Now, movies like the Saw series and Hostile are the most gruesome movies out there, and they look completely real. Shakespeare would love them. I believe those movies are disgusting, but the reality of the blood and guts shows the reality of the situation. I think Macbeth would hate shows like Jersey Shore. I think he would feel they serve no purpose, don’t have a good story line and enough action. Die Hard is in the middle, because there isn’t much blood and guts but it does have a somewhat good story line and is fully action packed. I think Macbeth would be better off in a digital world. I think he’d be able to easily show more the violence in a more believable way.

  54. I think that Shakespeare would find our horror movies interesting. He would probably be overwhelmed by the process of making them.
our advances in technology have helped producers create visual effects that make the movie feel real without watching it in person like Shakespeare's plays. The details of film making would be intriguing to him, and I think he would make good movies. Shakespeare would probably not be very satisfied with some of our television shows. The reality shows we have on tv are not exactly relevant to anything. They're random and have people on the shows that aren't actors. They're just random people being filmed to fight and create drama. Shakespeare would most likely be bored with this. If shakespeare lived in this time i believe he would be into making plays and movies. With our resources in movie making he would have a great time making unique films and plays.

  55. Many Elizabethans loved gory movies with bloddy fight scenes. I think that movies today would disappoint them. They loved the hard, explicit street hangings and jousting contests. In today's movies, they pull out a gun and it's all over. The "gruesomness" factor that they loved is gone. Shows like Jersey Shore and Die Hard would also disappoint them. I mean come on, no one has gotten beheaded in an eposide yet! Also, the petty bar fights and arguments would seem stupid to them. In their time, if you had a problem, you would fight to the death, not just fight until the cops came. Shakespere would also be appalled by the lack of common cortiousy. People today do not treat others with half the respect they used to. I think that Shakespere would be offended by the constant use of unmentionable four letter words. As far as movies and film, I think that Shakespere would be proud of our advancments. The special effects and props we are able to use are beyond his belief! Shakespere would definately take advantage of everything we had today if he were to make a movie.

  56. I think that he would really enjoy all the technology and be able to fourish with it. They had already started to act it out and use props and effects to enhance the performance. I think he would also love our dramas today. He would really like how realistic our plays are on broadway and also our sitcoms and tv dramas can be. Also, he owuld be interested in out reality shos, such as Jersey Shore, The Real World, The Bachelor, etc. They could help him study the way people act on certain situations and help him to better write his pieces.

  57. I think that some of our horror movies would be perfect for shakespeare because he would like movies that have a lot of gory scenes and blood in them. Something like Saw and Halloween would probably be his favorite movies. Action movies would also be a favorite for him because some of the fight scenes have some great moments in them.

I think that Shakespeare and Macbeth would have been amazed by our modernized technology. Shakesspeare would mostly enjoy the slasher movies and epic horror films. we would have a different perspective on movies and flims if Shakesspeare were the director or writing of our box office movies. His movies would be absolutely breathtaking. He would set box office records. I know that he would be happy with alot of new advances that we have prgressed too , yet he would be dissapointed in an equal amount. For example, reality shows like Jersey Shore(my personal favorite) or The Real World , would make him realize how much more respect his day in age had. Even worse, what we decreased too.
